UK Holiday - Traveling as a CF family

nicoleedwards254

Go on a family holiday they said, it’ll be fun they said 😆

We are just back from a wonderful week away in bonny Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 We split the 9/10 hour drive across a couple of days with LOTS of breaks and it was a big lesson in things that make travelling with our wee boy easier - especially given some of the extra things we have to factor in for him.

My advice is: take a top box 🤣🤣🤣 and you still might not have room for everything 😂

Seriously though - here’s some things I learnt this week 🙏:

  • Pack extra meds and your baby’s repeat prescription in case of any accidents like a spilt bottle of antibiotics or any other emergencies where you might need to go to a local pharmacy for more 💊

  • We used a tiny diabetes medicine cool box with some ice packs in it to keep syringes of antibiotics cool for day trips - as well as keeping the apple purée cool if you‘re doing breastfeeds on the go. The one we have tells you the temperature of the contents so you know it’s cool enough and it keeps things cool for 12 hours in the summer. 🧊 💉

  • We took our steriliser with us for peace of mind for the pep mask, syringes, spoons etc. Personally I think it’s worth making space for because we live and die by it! Take clean sponges so you can wash all CF paraphernalia with a fresh sponge and keep it separate from Airbnb cleaning items that might be old or have been left a while 🧼

  • Run the taps for a minute before using them when you get to your Airbnb to make sure the water is not old stagnant water 🛁

  • I found it really useful to have a roll out play mat that you can put down anywhere and can antibac regularly so you can roll it out and know your baby is playing on a clean mat. 🧸

  • Take a high chair seat cover for restaurant high chairs so you know your baby is touching something that’s very clean and antibac’d (although we took antibacterial Milton wipes for all tables and chairs on the go as well!) They’re available on Amazon and can be used for shopping trolleys too! 🪑

  • We bought an Osprey baby carrier and it was a game changer - I don’t think we’d plan to walk in torrential rain but when it did rain a bit, Arlo stayed bone dry with the rain cover over him 🎒

And enjoy the madness!! 💙
